Wordless Wednesday

April 23, 2010

After a horrific day at work I stopped by Joanns to do some pattern shopping. Shopping fixes almost everything. Simplicity patterns are in sale for $1.99. I really wanted top patterns and I had an idea of what I wanted. I picked out a couple of really cute things.

I picked out fabric for the two top patterns and for the skirt pattern. I didn't really find any fabric for the fourth pattern. I really like the pants, top and jacket on that pattern more then the dress. Originally I loved the pattern for the dress but I think I'd wear the pants and top combo more then the dress. I like dresses but I prefer either pants and tops or skirts and tops. Not sure why but not having anything tight around my waist makes me uncomfortable.

I love this fabric. It's really light weight cotton swiss dot. I really wanted something that was solid white but I love this print. They had several swiss dot prints but this was the only one that there was enough yardage for the top.
I chose this embroidered white cotton for this top. I'm doing the cap sleeve version of the top. I don't' really like three quarter sleeves that much, plus this is a summer top and I want to have nice tan arms.

This one is a nice weight linen. I don't know why the picture is turned like that but I couldn't get it to change the other way!!! Sorry. But it should make nice cute skirt that I can wear to work or on the weekend.

I'm planning to spend all day tomorrow sewing at home. Hubbs is planning to go off for the day with a bunch of guys and do a boys day. I already got my fabric washed and ironed so I'm ready to hit the ground running tomorrow. I might even go down and do some cutting tonight.

Wordless Wednesday.
Ya think he's comfortable like that?

April 20, 2010

It's a gray, cold, wet and windy day.

It's pouring outside today. The weekend was sunny and in the 80's and today we get this! I don't get it! Spring...I demand you stop teasing me!
In knitting news, I cast on for another pair of socks last Friday. Finished the first one this morning before work and cast on for the second pair. Work is slow right now and I'm itching to work on my socks instead of looking busy. Stupid work, always getting in the way of knitting (I'm making my mad face, you just can't see it).

A lot has been going on at the Dropped Stitch household lately. My office moved. Again. This is the 2nd time in less then two years this has happened. And the crazy part is that I moved back to the last location I moved from. I'm right across the aisle from my old cubicle. It's crazy and I really didn't want to move back to this old location. Moving means that I have to drive myself instead of commuting with Hubbs so it costs us more and there are no coffee shops or nice places to eat within walking distance anymore. I didn't leave the office that much to begin with but still. It was a nice treat to run out and grab a cup of coffee with a co-worker.

After the trip to Alabama I decided to go back to school and finish my degree in Administration of Justice. I'm not sure that it's going to help me much in advancing my career but at least I will have finished. At this time I'm only two classes short of finishing and if all goes according to plan I should finish by the end of the year. I'm planning on taking one class during the summer semester and one during the fall. I'm nervous about it and scared that I won't be able to do the work.

Hubbs and I have planned another trip back to Alabama. We agreed to go back, rent a truck and drive all of my Aunts things back to California. We have to make a stop in Tucson to drop off a dinning room set to a distant cousin. I have to call her this weekend to make arraignments with her to drop off the furniture. We're planning to make some stops during the trip to visit some tourist sights and see The Grand Canyon among other things. After we get back from that trip we'll be headed to Oregon for a week too. It's going to be a crazy couple of months

In knitting news, I'm still working on my Thermal, my Central Park Hoodie and Celeste. I'm also working on a pair of socks. The pattern is called Rattle Snake Creek Socks. I've finished the first sock and am working on the second one now, hoping to finish it this weekend so I can move on to something else. I started these socks the day before I left for Alabama in February. I had to rip out and re knit twice. But now I'm finally making progress. I learned how to cable without a needle on this project. I love learning new techniques. It's so fun! Pic's soon!

Have a great weekend!

We went to Tahoe last weekend for a friends wedding. The weather was pretty nice Friday, cool, windy and overcast on Satruday and a huge storm was forecasted for Sunday so we left town by 9am to get over the pass before the snow started to come down. Here's a few pictures.

I actually finished something! Seems like it's been a while since I finished anything.

Pattern: Embossed Leaves by Mona Schmidt
Yarn: Kraemer Yarns Saucon Sock in Lime
Needles: Size 2
Started: 03/27/10
Finished: 04/05/10
Mods: Didn't do the toe that the pattern had, did a standard toe. Other then that, nothing.
These are my first socks in cotton. I like the stitch definition and the color. I would use it again. Also this is the first time I've used this brand of sock yarn. I broke my resolution of not buying any sock yarn this year until I used up everything I already had in my stash but I have a good excuse! A new yarn shop opened recently in Mid-town and the hubbs and I stopped in to check it out. It's a very small shop called Fig Tree Alley and I had to support a local yarn shop! The lady running the shop was very nice and I enjoyed my visit very much. I figured one skein of sock yarn was worth buying to help keep her shop going.
I decided to move on with my Top 10 Banned Novels reading and just skip reading the book by Voltaire. I'm just not into reading anything that heavy right now. Work has been really stressful and home has been really stressful so I'm going to go on to reading something else for a while. I'm going to keep the list on the side bar in case I decide to come back to it later in the year.
I read Pride and Prejudice and Monsters and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and am currently reading The Long Walk, The true story of a trek to freedom by Slavomir Rawicz. Hopefully the library comes through today with a couple of more books I requested. Hubbs and I are headed off to Lake Tahoe this weekend for a friends wedding so I'm going to need some reading material and The Long Walk is almost finished.
I cast on for a new pair of socks yesterday and I'm still working on my Thermal. I'm doing the placket on the front right now and for some reason I seem to have a block on finishing this part which is why I've gone back to making socks. I still need to finish the sleeves for my Central Park Hoodie but haven't made any progress on that either. I know this weekend won't be very restful but I'm hoping for at least some down time to relax by the lake before we head back home. I have knitting that needs to be done!
